Memories and Musings

When God created the human body, he created a wondrous thing. Among the many features found in the human being is the ability to remember. Hence, we have memories.

Good memories can uplift a person who may be experiencing a spiritual low. It is these good memories I wish to share by way of this article.

My early memories of the Iola Pentecostal Church start in the 50's. Though located in a very small community, our pastor, Bro. Hira Byers was able to persuade such qualified ministers as Bro. Ben Pemberton, Bro. & Sis. Norman Pasley, Bro. Fred Kinze and the Kinze party, Bro. & Sis. Nathaniel Urshan, Bro. F. E. Kurts, Bro. & Sis. Edward Kelly, Bro. & Sis. Johnny Reed, and others too numerous to mention to come and share their ministry with us.

It was during this same time period, before air-conditioning was common, that during revivals, many of the local folk would stand outside the windows of the church and listen to spirit-filled singing and preaching. Summer heat did not prevent the work of the Lord from being accomplished.

During the 60s and 70s as various pastors came to our church to continue the work, we were blessed by the preaching of such men of God as Brothers J. T. Pugh, Roy Gerald, T. F. Tenney, James Johnson, Steve Fender and many more. There was much to be thankful for.

It is my prayer that God's blessing will always be with this church so souls will continue to find God.
